Hello,
Thank you so much to all of you for such a wonderful year. Your children are ready to move to 4th grade! I want to leave you with one last update and it is a request that you have your child read during the summer. There is something called
a "summer slide" and it is not the good kind of slide! Research shows that students who do not read during the summer may slide back in their reading skills by up to 3 or 4 months! The progress the children have made this year in their reading is incredible. Please make sure that your child is reading books at his or her level. As much as we want to push our children to read things that are higher and harder, if they can't read it, it is not doing them any good.
Please have your child find and read books he or she enjoys and have them read daily. Students who read during the summer are sometimes YEARS ahead of their peers by the time they reach middle school.
If you are interested in learning more about reading, one of my favorite sites is:

I'm also going to try to keep up with my own book blog. Not all of the books are appropriate for children entering 4th grade, but many are appropriate and I'm always trying to find something new to read. If your child would like to comment or if you would like to comment on something I am reading or something you are reading, let me know on my blog.
I hope that they are becoming confident readers and writers and I would love to read their opinions on the books they are choosing to read.

(By the way, the summer slide applies to math too! I *believe* that Reflex Math will be available all summer for your
child. I was checking out the curriculum for 4th grade and there is a QUICK review of multiplication - 1 week - in 4th grade and then they'll jump right into new things. Please make sure your child is VERY confident with multiplication facts!)
Have a wonderful summer!
